A Florida man was arrested Saturday after throwing lighted firecrackers under the bed of a sleeping child in what he said to the police was a "joke that went wrong".
The Okaloosa County sheriff's deputies visited a house in Crestview, Florida, Saturday, where Matthew Morrison, 44, was living in a tent on the outside. The owner told the police that Morrison had entered the house without authorization and had thrown a series of firecrackers under the bed of a 9-year-old girl.
"The little girl told the deputies that she was awake to the sound of fireworks that exploded in her room, frightening her, making her cry and shake her," the The sheriff's office said in a statement.
The owner of the house then sued Morrison with a stick. When MPs arrested Morrison, they found about two grams of methamphetamine in his pants pocket.
Morrison was arrested and charged with burglary, cruelty to children without great prejudice and possession of a controlled substance, according to prison records.
