Police arrested a Florida martial arts instructor after he allegedly placed hidden cameras in his academy’s washroom.

Pembroke Pines police arrested Robert Franco, 64, on Friday after a 17-year-old college student noticed cameras hidden in photo frames in the washroom last month. The student then took photos of the cameras before confronting Franco, prompting him to destroy the cameras and frames.

Police said the student also informed her father of the incident, who called 911.

Officers arrived at the scene and immediately began to investigate, seizing a phone and computer as evidence. Investigators have found cameras have been in place in the washrooms since Franco took over the academy in March, capturing footage of adults and children.

An arrest warrant was issued for Franco several days later, with the instructor surrendering to Broward County authorities on Friday.

Police said Franco attempted to provide an explanation for the cameras, which officers found unreasonable.

Investigators are now encouraging anyone who attended or visited the academy to contact the Special Victim Support Unit at 954-743-1637, saying they need help identifying some of the victims.

“The Pembroke Pines Police Department expects more victims to come forward,” said Captain Adam Feiner of the Pembroke Pine Police Department. “We have not yet identified them and need the help of the communities to do so.”

Franco faces several charges of video voyeurism and forging or fabricating physical evidence.
