Florida Nursing Home Employees Officially Accused of Heat-Related Deaths

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Prosecutors formally indicted four former employees of a Florida nursing home, where a power outage following a hurricane resulted in the death of 12 patients.

The Broward County Attorney's Office on Monday filed a criminal disclosure report outlining nine counts of manslaughter of an elderly person against Administrator Jorge Carballo and Nursing Supervisor Sergo Colin.

Nurse Althia Meggie faces two counts of major manslaughter of a senior and two counts of falsification of evidence. Nurse Tamika Miller faces six counts of major manslaughter and two counts of falsification of evidence.

They were arrested last month.
