WINTER HAVEN, Florida – A Polk County woman battling COVID-19 in hospital has returned home to a gruesome scene involving her husband.
“It was like stepping into a horror movie, and I wish I had never seen it like this because I can’t get that image out of my head,” Lisa Steadman told FOX 13 tearfully.
She found her husband, Ron, dead from the virus.
Ron had been diagnosed at a walk-in clinic with COVID a week and a half earlier. As his case did not appear to be serious, he was sent home with medication to recover.
Meanwhile, Lisa was struggling at Winter Haven Hospital.
“I thought I was going to die. I couldn’t breathe. I couldn’t stop throwing up,” she recalls.
She was getting exhausted from the struggle to continue.
“It’s like you don’t have any bones in your body. You can’t move. You’re just so weak.”

After about a week, during one of the couple’s phone conversations, Ron told Lisa that her phone was not charged. The next day, she called him but couldn’t reach him, so she asked Winter Haven Police to watch him.
When they did, everything seemed to be OK.
Two days later, Lisa was released from the hospital. When she got home, she found Ron dead.
“They say he died of COVID related issues because they know he had COVID,” Lisa continued. “They don’t know if he’s had a COVID heart attack or if he’s had an embolism. They don’t know.”

Neither Lisa nor Ron had been vaccinated. After going through this, Lisa plans to get the vaccine.
