Two Florida women dressed as “grannies” in an attempt to get vaccinated against COVID-19, health officials said Thursday.
Their wacky outfit included “the hats, the gloves, the goggles – the whole thing,” said Dr. Raul Pino, director of the Florida health department at Orange County.
Workers at the Orange County Convention Center vaccination site noticed the women “looked funny” and stopped them before they could get the vaccine, Pino said, according to WKMG-TV.
There had also been an issue with the IDs and driver’s licenses they provided, Pino noted.
The duo were coming for their second dose of the vaccine.
Pino said he wasn’t sure how they got their first hit, and it’s unclear if they used the same trick.
“I don’t know how they got away the first time,” he says.
The incident was handed over to local authorities, who issued intrusion warnings to women.
The Orange County Sheriff’s Office said one of the women was 44 and the other 34, local channel WWL-TV reported.
In Florida, only adults 65 years of age and older, healthcare workers, residents, and assisted living staff are eligible for the vaccine.
Pino said the number of people trying to forge their identity to obtain the photo is likely “higher than expected.”
As a result, security has been stepped up at the vaccination site, he said.
