Food City to offer free COVID-19 vaccines

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee (WVLT) – Food City has announced plans to offer free COVID-19 vaccines once they become available to the general public.

“Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our team at Supermarket Heroes have gone above and beyond the call of duty to meet the needs of our customers and the communities we serve. From the extraordinary efforts of our frontline associates to those working behind the scenes, it has truly been a team effort and we are proud to have the opportunity to partner with HHS to deliver the free COVID-19 vaccine a once it’s readily available, ”said Steven C. Smith, President and CEO of Food City.

Food City Pharmacy will follow CDC vaccination guidelines for administering the COVID-19 vaccine, including advice to minimize the risk of exposure to COVID-19, according to a statement from the grocery store.

“Food City immunizing pharmacists are certified to administer vaccines according to the standards set by the American Pharmacists Association and corresponding national pharmacy associations. Food City has offered a number of affordable preventative vaccines, including seasonal flu, pneumonia and shingles vaccines, and have been doing so for over a decade, ”said Mickey Blazer, Executive Vice President of Pharmaceuticals Operations at Food City .
