"Ford v Ferrari"World premiered in Telluride on Friday afternoon and festival-goers greeted it with enthusiasm.
Christian Bale and Matt Damon In this true story of the legendary race of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966. Bale embodies race driver Ken Miles, who teamed up with automotive designer Carroll Shelby to design a Ford capable of defeating the fast-paced Ferrari.
Bale won an Academy Award for his supporting role in "The Fighter" in 2011. He has since been nominated three more times, including the leading role of "Vice" last year.
Damon won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for "Good Will Hunting" in 1997. This film also earned him a nomination for the lead actor. He has since won two other acting appointments and was one of the producers named in 2017 for "Manchester by the Sea".
"Ford v Ferrari" is produced by James Mangold, who earned his first Oscar nomination for writing "Logan" in 2017. He previously directed "Girl, Interrupted," "Walk the Line," and "Knight and Day."
When the credits were recorded in Colorado, reactions began to pour in on Twitter. Critics and fans generally shared many praise for the action drama. Bale seems to be the hot topic of discussion, with the film's technical merits.
Clayton Davis and Mark Johnson were eager to share their impressions:
Christian Bale emulates his Oscar-winning role as Dicky in "The Fighter". Main role. Definitely a candidate for name. Damon brings him home at the end but struggles early. Noah Skirt is amazingly great. Letts is a force that requires attention #fordvferrari #TellurideFilmFestival pic.twitter.com/rRc869oALn

#FordvFerrari The rotational speed of all cylinders is optimized by Christian Bale's performance in pumping pistons. Editing, cinematography and score are all first class feats, but the sound work dominates the film. Could be a big competitor below the line. # Tff46

Mara Reinstein of Us Weekly was less enthusiastic about her enthusiasm, but still liked it:
Just out of #FordvFerrari – in terms of automobile metaphor, it is solidly built. Bale is great at the wheel. But it takes forever to tack. I do not think it will make much noise at the box office / awards season. #TellurideFilmFestival

Ashley Menzel of We Live Entertainment shares Reinstein's feelings about the slow start, but agrees it's an immersive experience:
A little slow the door, but #fordvferrari hits hard when it fully embraces the humor and adrenaline of the movie fueled by the performances of Bale and Damon. The sound is totally immersive and takes you into the race. @FordvFerrari #telluridefilmfestival #Telluride

J. Don Birnam of Circuit Awards is also present at Telluride and said:
I have never seen a film that deals with so many clichés and stereotypes that manage to overcome all these shortcomings to produce an effective product that beats the heart. Letts is the best part of #FordvFerrari #Telluride #TellurideFilmFestival

And Erik Anderson of Awards Watch also wanted to give a special mention to Bale, winner of an Oscar:
FORD v FERRARI is just as exciting and thrilling as you would expect. Great performances all around but Christian Bale wins this race. #fordvferrari #TellurideFilmFestival
