While Gottlieb believes the recent spike in positive cases will likely dissipate in the coming weeks, he fears the CDC guidelines may have a counterproductive impact by further deterring those already on the fence about the vaccine.
Gottlieb stressed, however, that people who are vaccinated “should be aware” that they are still at risk of transmitting the virus, he told CNBC’s “Squawk Box”.
Instead, he argued, the advice should be aimed at encouraging symptomatic people to get tested and take the necessary safety precautions, he explained.
“A much more careful advice for people would be that if you are vaccinated in an area of high prevalence, in contact with [the] virus, you think you might have the virus because you have mild symptoms, be careful, get tested, maybe wear a mask, especially if you are around a vulnerable person, ”he said declared.
There is still a major setback against universal masking, and not all jurisdictions are following the CDC trial. St. Louis County Council voted to end its recently implemented mask term on Tuesday night, according to FOX 2. However, county executive Sam Page said the mandate was still in effect despite the vote. And the City of St. Louis mask warrant, FOX 2 reported, is still in effect.

Even some Democratic governors known for their aggressive coronavirus mitigation measures are now slow to follow the CDC with universal masking.
“Whether or not that translates into general guidance for the whole population, I don’t think it does,” Gottlieb said. “I don’t think we’re going to get enough bang for our buck by telling people who have been vaccinated to wear masks at all times to make it worth it.”
