CAMBRIDGE – The Fort Frye women’s cross country team won the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 3A Championship on Saturday in Cambridge.

Cadets had the best overall result, Cadence Waller, who clocked 20 minutes, 19 seconds to finish 11th. Emma Richards was 16th at 8:32 pm, Ava Huck 17th at 8:36 pm and Laine Spindler finished in the top 30 at 9:31 pm. Maggie Fulton was 77th at 11:25 pm, Kyndal Buchanan 96th at 24:06 and Natalie Rauch 126th at 25:58.

“We are delighted to come there and take the trophy home”, Fort Frye head coach Jason Lipot said. “It’s a good base and a good start to the playoffs. From now on, every race will count and count a lot. “

As for the 3A riders, Waller (2nd), Richards (4th), Huck (5th) and Spindler (8th) all finished in the top 10.

“It’s good to see them win” said Lipot.

“We expected it to be the win. We have two weeks to prepare for the districts. We have a good chance of doing quite well there. Then the regional ones, and the ultimate goal, which I think is achievable, is to be a state qualifying team.

In the boys of Fort Frye, Phinn Spindler finished second among the boys 3A and finished 17th overall at 16:47.

“He came and had a very strong race”, said Lipot. “He left quickly, hung on and showed a lot of tenacity, courage and perseverance. I am proud of what he did.

The Caldwell Boys and Girls both won the 1A / 2A titles.

The girls saw Brynn Block finish 12th (20:22), Sage Speck 25th (21:16), Sadie Watson 53rd (22:26), Katie Franklin 63rd (22:57) and Emma Lowe 76th (23:25.

On the boys’ side, Caldwell was led by Blake Miller (18:12) in 55th, followed by Noah Scheich (18:50) in 77th, Chuck Estadt (18:59) in 82nd, Gavin Clark (20:33) in 143rd . and Cody Welch (21:56) in 183rd.

The Marietta boys got a top 10 from Ezra Minard, who placed ninth with a time of 16:27.

Warren was led by Bryson Angelo, who finished 19th at 4:51 pm.

On the girls’ side, Marietta was led by Ava Gebczyk, who placed 19th at 8:43 pm.

Warren saw Grace Randall check in at 9:27 pm to finish 29th.
