A 72-year-old woman has died after developing rare blood clots following AstraZeneca’s jab.

The South Australian woman received the vaccine on June 24, fell ill and was admitted to Royal Adelaide Hospital on July 5.

She died on July 11, according to State Premier Steven Marshall.

“Our hearts are with his family at this very sad time,” he told reporters. “Obviously, this is a very sad situation.”

The woman has spent all of her time in intensive care and is the fourth Australian to die after developing blood clots, or thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome (TTS), from the vaccine.

Marshall said the woman’s death has been referred to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) and the state coroner for further investigation.

The incident follows the death in June of a woman in New South Wales who developed a blood clot in her brain.

Emily Kirkpatrick, the deputy chief public health officer, said the woman lived in the South Australia region.

“It’s important to know that this is still a rare disease, (but) it’s something we might continue to see especially if you’re over 60,” she said. to journalists.

“So, it is important that if you develop any symptoms, please seek help from your GP. If you cannot see your GP and you have symptoms, please go to the emergency room. “

“We know that TTS is a treatable disease, and with early treatment we can try to prevent any serious long-term outcomes.”

The woman was the 76e person to develop blood clotting after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine. So far, more than 5.5 million doses have been administered in Australia.

Symptoms of blood clotting include headache and pain in the abdomen and legs. Feeling unwell four days after receiving the vaccine is also a symptom.

In the last update of the TGA (June 28 to July 4), the pharmaceutical organization recorded 1646 adverse events following vaccination (AEFI)

“Large-scale vaccination means that, coincidentally, some people will experience a new disease or die soon after vaccination,” the report says.

“The TGA is looking at all reported deaths in people who have received the vaccine. We also monitor signals that may be related to vaccine safety to distinguish between fortuitous events and possible side effects of the vaccine. “
