Fox News weekend anchor Eric Shawn on Sunday delivered a solid fact-check of President Donald Trump’s baseless allegations of widespread voter fraud.
Shawn’s demystification came just hours after Fox Business presenter Maria Bartiromo, who bolstered Trump, devoted most of her show to promoting the president’s latest conspiracy theory that the computer software steals votes.
While the president essentially declared war on Fox News for being the first network to call Arizona for President-elect Joe Biden, urging his supporters to abandon the conservative-leaning network, he still spent the weekend to hook up with pro-Trump Fox News stars who supported his lies and false statements about the election.
Sharing multiple clips from opinion leaders Jeanine Pirro and Jesse Watters that featured Trump loyalists peddling the tale that Biden had ‘stolen’ the election – a clip revealed Watters was even saying “I cannot prove this claim but it is an instinctive feeling”– the president told his millions of Twitter followers to watch Bartiromo’s Sunday interview with his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.
During his conversation with Giuliani, who Trump has now charged with his electoral court challenges after several law firms dumped the president after a series of embarrassing legal losses, Bartiromo credited the claim that voting machines of the Dominion were used to reverse Trump’s votes. in Biden.
“One source says the key point to understand is that the Smartmatic system has a backdoor, which allows or allows votes to be reflected and monitored allowing a stakeholder to understand in real time how many votes will be needed for gain an electoral advantage, ”she said at one point. “Are you saying that the states that use this software have done so?”
Giuliani, meanwhile, has claimed on several occasions that he has direct evidence of voter fraud related to Dominion software and voting machines, but he is unable to share this information at this time.
“We have people that I can’t really disclose who can describe the material in detail,” he said. (The former New York mayor, of course, was involved in the president’s search operation against Biden and his son Hunter, long making unsubstantiated claims that never materialized.)
Bartiromo also greeted Sidney Powell, a member of Trump’s legal team, who also reiterated baseless claims that Dominion had changed “millions of votes” but added: “I’m not going to say it on TV. national ”when asked how she would prove that the election was“ rigged ”. Against Trump.
“Well, let’s get the electoral facts straight as we know them now,” Shawn said Sunday afternoon. “Rigged elections or your own government election officials across the country and voting experts say that’s not true? Baseless statements that are inflammatory, designed to undermine your faith in American democracy. “
The Fox anchor then released a clip of a Federal Election Commission official saying this year’s election was “the safest election we’ve ever had,” while warning of the impact of conspiracy theories on erosion of confidence in the system.
Shawn, as he did a few days earlier, further noted that the president was lying when he claimed that Republican poll observers were not allowed to observe the counting process in Pennsylvania and other states, replaying an interview he had with Philadelphia City Commissioner Al Schmidt.
He eventually tackled the Dominion conspiracy theory, reading aloud a company statement denying the right-wing’s claims – touted by Bartiromo and other Fox stars – that they have ties to Venezuela or to prominent politicians and democratic organizations.
“Prosecutors say any allegations of electoral or electoral fraud will be fully investigated and if there was a fix, if there was wrongdoing, we will find out,” Shawn concluded. “But election officials across the country insist, to date, there is no evidence of widespread fraud affecting the outcome of the presidential election, that our precious democracy has not been tampered with and that such claims without Basis and falsehoods are an insult to the thousands of election officials and workers across the country that we have seen dedicate themselves 24/7 to ensuring fair and free elections for all of us.
Shawn’s forceful denunciation of Trump’s conspiracies follows Fox News weekend anchor Leland Vittert, blaming a Trump campaign spokesperson for the president’s refusal to admit he lost the ‘election. The president, of course, took to Twitter on Sunday to denounce Vittert, once again urging his supporters to try Trump-loyal cable news channels, One America News and Newsmax instead.
