Android 11 revamps the power menu that opens when you press and hold the physical unlock / unlock key. However, as part of the integration of Google Home and Pay, some find that the actual orders of the device do not take priority. The November security patch brings back the lost ‘Screenshot’ button for some Pixel users to fix at least one issue.
Instead of appearing as a vertical tray next to the lock key location on your device, the device controls are now at the very top of the screen. This is more difficult to achieve, as only three actions can be displayed at a time.
One of the more unfortunate changes was the removal of a screenshot button. Users today have to hold the lock + volume down, ask the Assistant, or use the shortcut in the Recents menu. The latter is Google’s primary solution, but screenshots taken this way hide the state and gesture navigation bar.
This new way is part of Google’s larger redesign of the multitasking screen, which came to gesture and legacy 3-button navigation. However, the 2-button navigation has been left out, and these resistors have no dedicated means for screenshot capture.
Last week’s November security patch is aimed at these users (via Reddit) by adding “Screenshot” to the Power menu. If the lock is off, it will appear as the third tile. Otherwise, it will appear in an overflow menu.
It’s a good change for those who are steadfast in their desire to use 2-button navigation. Google did not remove this system from devices (Pixel 2-3a) that were launched with it, but the Pixel 4 and newer versions use gesture navigation by default and only provide a 3-button alternative. Pixel 2 users should get this screenshot button with the December security patch because the device skipped a month on its way to EOL status.
