Fox Sports Midwest Will Be Called Something Else – A Hunt and Peck

“It might as well happen. “

2020 has been a strange, sad, lonely and heartbreaking year. It was only one giant disappointment after another, with moments of fleeting glee strewn in between. With all of that in mind, Sinclair Broadcasting granting new naming rights for the channel formerly known as Fox Sports Midwest to a gambling company called Bally Corporation could have been bigger news, but now … it could just as well happen.

Bally Corporation would give Sinclair Broadcasting $ 85 million to rename its regional sports networks. What does this mean for the viewer besides a new name on the channel guide? I’m not really sure, to be honest. According to Sinclair President and CEO Chris Ripley, quoted by Dan Caesar in the St. Louis Post Dispatch:

“… Future live sports consumers will expect a more dynamic and engaging sports viewing experience. … This partnership perfectly positions our sports portfolio to fully capitalize on the evolution of audience behavior.

Former VEB site manager Craig Edwards knows a lot more than I do, so I’ll share what he had to say:

Of course, some people don’t have access to the Cardinals regional sports network at all, but that may change after the network change. Per Caesar again:

But Sinclair President and CEO Chris Ripley said Thursday that what is now known as Fox Sports Midwest, as well as other Sinclair-owned regional sports networks across the country, would be available for customers to buy independently.

“We have a pretty aggressive plan,” he said. “It will happen next year. “

Sinclair apparently wants to offer viewers options now that they want to bring their new gaming platform to them. There is a wrinkle in the case of Missouri, however, as the state has not legalized sports betting.

The bottom line is that there are a lot of unknowns as to how this will play out. What we do know for sure is Fox Sports Midwest as we knew it was going to change. We just don’t know how.

Just add it to the list.
