The heat wave that has been raging for nearly a week in eastern Canada has left at least 33 people dead in Quebec, local authorities announced today. Eighteen deaths related to this episode of heat were counted in the agglomeration of Montreal.

The victims in Montreal are part of" very vulnerable populations, old people or people with chronic or mental diseases "and not having air conditioning, said Dr Drouin, in an interview on public television Radio-Canada.
