Washington – US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will visit North Korea again on July 5 to continue consultations on the denuclearization of the peninsula, following the historic summit between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un.
The head of the American diplomacy must meet " the North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and his team " in order " to continue the important work in the process of denuclearization of the Korean peninsula "said White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders at a press briefing.
The State Department said in a statement that Mr. Pompeo would be in North Korea from July 5 to 7 " to continue consultations and implement the progress made by President Trump and Leader Kim in Singapore "on the 12th of June.
Mike Pompeo will then travel to Tokyo on July 7 and 8, where he will meet with Japanese and South Korean officials " from our shared commitment to a definitive and fully verified denuclearization of the DPRK (acronym North Korea, Ed.), as well as other regional and bilateral issues ", according to the State Department.
The US Secretary of State will then travel to Hanoi and Abu Dhabi before traveling to Brussels for the NATO summit.
The Singapore summit eased tensions between Washington and Pyongyang. But the historic handshake between MM. Kim and Trump did not come up with either a timetable or specific terms for the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear arsenal.
Citing multiple anonymous sources, US media have reported in recent days that US intelligence has information that North Korea is attempting to hide some of its nuclear arsenal.
