ION – An Indonesian court on Thursday sentenced a 15-year-old girl to six months in prison for having an abortion after being raped by her brother. The conditions required to have the right to an abortion are extremely restricted in this country.

The 15-year-old woman, raped by her older brother, was sentenced to six months in prison for having aborted. Both were arrested after the discovery of a fetus in a palm plantation. The teenager, who was aborted at six months of pregnancy, was raped eight times by her brother between September and June, at the time of the abortion, according to the spokesman.
When conditions, however limited, are met for voluntary termination of pregnancy, the Indonesian law provides that it must be performed by an authorized professional and for a pregnancy of six weeks maximum. Psychological follow-up sessions are also planned.
