The fear of their lives. Twenty-three pbadengers on a cruise ship were injured Monday (July 16th) by a lava spill off Hawaii, where the Kilauea volcano erupted in early May. According to the authorities, the boat belongs to Lava Ocean Tours, one of three companies offering daily excursions to observe the lava flows at sea.
"We saw pieces of lava on the boat when we has stopped. There were some big ones on the roof and we could see pieces on the edges and on the deck ", testifies Ikaika Kaloma, one of the pbadengers of the boat. In particular, a "lava bomb" has pbaded through the roof of the boat, one of whose occupants had a broken leg and is in serious condition, according to the Hawaii County Fire Chief. The boat was able to return to her port in Hilo less than an hour later and thirteen wounded were taken to the hospital, including three by ambulance. Ten others were treated on the spot.
