The pilot of a small pbadenger plane died Sunday when his plane crashed into a field near Ottawa after colliding with another plane in flight, official Canadian sources said.

The accident occurred shortly after 10 am local time at Carp, Ontario, about 30 km west of Ottawa, under circumstances yet to be determined, police said.

The other plane landed safely

One of the two Cessna planes crashed into a field. The pilot, who was alone on board, died on the spot as a result of his injuries, Ottawa emergency services said in a statement.

The second plane involved, a device with about ten seats Piper PA42 type, was redirected to the Ottawa International Airport where he landed without incident, told AFP a spokesman for the Bureau Federal Transport Agency. "We have deployed a team of investigators" who should arrive at the scene of the accident Sunday afternoon, said the spokesman.

Struck from below

According to CBC, the Piper pilot, who was traveling with another pbadenger, reported to the air traffic controllers that the other aircraft had struck him from below, which damaged part of his right landing gear.

Neither the pilot nor his pbadenger were injured, according to the emergency services.
