Buenos Aires – Several tens of thousands of people demonstrated Monday in Buenos Aires against the conclusion of an agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the policy of economic rigor of Argentine President Mauricio Macri.

" We are here (..) to say 'no' to the IMF and not to give up our resources ," one of the protesters, Norberto Marasco, told AFP.

Human rights groups, trade unions, opposition political parties participated in this march – organized on Independence Day – to demand " a change of course "of the center-right government, in a context of slowing the economy and inflation.

" Let's break the chains imposed on us by Mauricio Macri's agreement with the IMF, which only badures us of a planned misery ", proclaims a text read during the demonstration. In June, the IMF granted a $ 50 billion loan to Argentina.

" We will continue to resist that in 2019 Macri be humiliated in the polls ," said the leader of the truckers' union, Pablo Moyano, referring to the presidential election scheduled for next year, and pointing to " growing social malaise ".

Mauricio Macri admitted difficulties but validated the course of his government. " We are going through a storm " which is the consequence of " many circumstances ," said the president on Monday.
