The leader of the Dutch far-right, Geert Wilders, obtained mid-June the agreement of the authorities of the
Netherlands to organize a cartoon contest of Muhammad. The competing drawings will be exhibited in a parliamentary chamber in The Hague, under surveillance, reports Le Parisien this Wednesday

Drawings judged by an American cartoonist

The strong man of the Party of the Liberté (PVV), which claims to have already received nearly two hundred caricatures, announced its project two months ago. It remained to obtain the green light of the political authorities of the country. The national counterterrorism coordinator has estimated that there are no security problems

The competition, open to all, should be held in autumn and the PVV promises to offer 5,000 euros reward. The drawings will be evaluated by the American cartoonist Bosch Fawstin who had himself won a contest of this kind organized in Texas in 2015. Geert Wilders had attended and the event was the target of an abortive attack: two armed men had tried an attack before being shot by the police

Customary provocations

The leader of the PVV is not at his first attack against Islam. He has already called for banning the Koran and closing Muslim schools and mosques. He was sentenced in 2016 for incitement to hatred and discrimination. After the competition, Geert Wilders plans to collect and publish the best caricatures in a "Charlie Hebdo" magazine.

A call for a boycott of the Netherlands and Dutch products was launched in Pakistan. During protests over the past few days, some signs have been read: "Kouachi brothers are needed for Wilders"
