The Piton de la Fournaise, the volcano of Reunion, erupted for the third time of the year Friday around 4:30 (2:30 in Paris), according to the prefecture.
The magma came to the surface after a seismic crisis that began shortly before midnight on Thursday.
According to the volcanological observatory of the Piton de la Fournaise (OVPF) "the three or four eruptive mouths opened on the northern flank of the volcano" inside the Enclos, the central caldera of the volcano

The area is totally uninhabited and the phenomenon presents no danger to the population.

The two previous eruptions took place last April.
Located in the south-east of Reunion, the Piton de la Fournaise is one some of the most active in the world. It has erupted about fifteen times in the last ten years
