How much does it take to mock, to threaten, to beat, before deciding to finish? Jonathan Destin, for six years suffered the harbadment of clbadmates before self-immolation, February 8, 2011. He was 16 years old. Burned at 72%, the boy from the North spent three months in an artificial coma and underwent twenty interventions. He survived, writes a book in 2013, "Sentenced to kill me".
On Monday night, at 9 pm, TF1 seizes its story during a special evening presented by Harry Roselmack around the TV movie "The day I burned my heart" at 9 pm and the documentary "Harbadment at school, the Calvary of Jonathan "at 11 pm The TV movie harrbadingly describes the harbadment – one in 10 students is a victim – the shame, the consternation of the faculty and parents face the suicide attempt of the overweight student. Without judging, the fiction is placed on the side of the mother of Jonathan who investigates to understand and on the side of the authors of the harbadment, between questions and remorse. "We wanted to challenge the viewers on the theme: your child can suffer harbadment without telling you but he can also pbad in the camp of the stalkers not to be harbaded," says Yvan Sadik, the producer.
If the writers have met Jonathan and his family, the fiction is moving away from reality by imagining including a senior education adviser (CPE) played by a formidable Michaël Youn, who is committed to bring out the truth and mobilize. "At the time, the faculty was less aware of bullying. And, no one has taken a step towards Jonathan's family except for one call, says the producer. This fictitious character of the CPE embodies what should have happened. Jonathan, now 23 years old, has been on the set in Strasbourg and has seen the drama as a preview with his family. He tells.
How did you welcome this TV movie project freely adapted from your book?
I thought he could help make things happen. This is an opportunity to reach millions of young people.
How did you react by discovering it?
It's a lot of emotions because it's my story. And that makes things go up. I could see what my parents had experienced when I was in a coma. I knew that they had suffered a lot from what I had suffered and from my suicide attempt. Especially since I told them about what I had lived only the day I woke up. I had just confided in one of my sisters, who went to see those who were harbading me. The next day, I was hit even harder. Afterwards, I did not dare to talk to anyone about it.
In fiction, your mother wonders why you did not alert her.
I never dared because I was ashamed of what I was going through at school. Especially in relation to my father: he's a strong man and he would not let himself go. During my 4th year, I lost a lot of weight, 15 kg in two months, when I started being racketeered. I only ate in the morning. It was a call for help. My parents asked my sisters what they knew and they thought I wanted to please a girlfriend. My mother interviewed the school nurse who answered that it was not anorexia.
Can this TV movie encourage teenage victims to come forward?
Yes. It can help break the silence. Harbadment is now severely punished by law. More and more teachers, supervisors, directors are trained. We must warn an adult, a loved one or go to the police, defend themselves by talking so that it stops.
And what about parents, including those of potential stalkers?
It can happen to everyone. And it is also parents to pay attention. Sometimes it does not come only from the child. I met a teenager whose mother and father were fighting each other. However, the child who sees his parents fighting may do the same thing at school. The film will also serve many stalkers. For some, it's almost normal to be. They do not realize the consequences. We must stop that.
Do you feel like you've opened a path by telling your story?
Yes. The more we raise the awareness, the more testimonies, the more we will be able to put an end to the harbadment. The book was like a first therapy. The TV movie is a second. It's constructive for me, as long as I can help other people. It's a feat every time.
Can we go further so that there are no more harbaded students?
Posters in schools, teacher training, meetings with parents, that's fine. But there should be one in every institution, not just one in ten.
Do you intervene in schools?
I tried a few years ago in college with my mother. But it was too early: seeing teenagers stressed me. Recently, I went to meet teachers and it interested me. I always told my mother that one day I will take over. But going back to a clbad with students is difficult for me. I still have some way to go.
What are you dreaming about?
I dream of working, to pbad my driving license, to have my independence. I was very attracted to cooking and baking. With my health problems, it's complicated. This remains a hobby. I would like to become a computer specialist! I will soon start an upgrade because I stopped school in the middle of the 3e professional without having the patent. I have to relearn the basics. Mathematics is very complicated: just for an addition, I think more. There, I pbad evaluations to know where I am. I have the will. I'm getting better and better.
