It's now official: Carrie Fisher will appear in Star Wars IX (still untitled at the moment) thanks to scenes shot during the Force Awakens and which had not been used during the final editing of the film. And this with the agreement of the family of the actress deceased in December 2016 at the age of 60 years. JJ Abrams, the director of this latest installment of the new trilogy, says in a statement:
" Finding a satisfying conclusion to the Skywalker saga was impossible without it, there was never any question of recastering the character or using special effects, and with the help and support of her daughter, Billie, we found a way to honor Carrie's memory and Leia's role using footage shot in Episode VII "
Other returns, that of Billy Dee Williams in the skin of Lando, and those of Mark Hamill and Anthony Daniels, respectively Luke Skywalker and C-3PO. The arrival of Keri Russell in the universe is confirmed, in a role obviously kept secret; and she will be accompanied by Naomi Ackie and Richard E. Grant.
The next generation will obviously be in the game: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong'o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Heavy.
The film co-written by JJ Abrams and Chris Terrio will be released in cinemas in December 2019.
