Rome (AFP) – Ten people, including a family of nine, have died in the Palermo region of Sicily due to river floods, firefighters said on Sunday.
The bodies of nine members of the same family, including children aged 1, 3 and 15, were recovered from their country house in Casteldaccia. Three other people from the same family managed to escape the rising waters, according to the Italian agency Agi.
A 44-year-old service station manager also died Saturday night in Vicari commune, trying to reach his workplace where an employee was stuck, says Agi. A pbadenger, not yet found, was aboard the car carried away.
The authorities have no news of a doctor who was driving around the town of Corleone and seems to have had to abandon his car on a road because of bad weather.
