The Los Angeles Lakers have formalized the recruitment of head coach Frank Vogel, announcing he would be the 27th head coach of the team for the 2019-2020 season of the NBA.
Although the terms of the agreement have not been disclosed, both parties would have agreed on a three year contract.
Vogel spent five full seasons with the Indiana Pacers in the 2011-16 season, playing in the playoffs of four of those five seasons. In two seasons, the Vogel's Pacers made their way to the Eastern Conference finals, where they were eliminated by LeBron James and the Miami Heat twice.
More recently, Vogel spent two years without success with the Orlando Magic, recording a record of 54-110. However, the Magic traded Victor Oladipo, Tobias Harris, Ersan Ilyasova and Domantas Sabonis against Brandon Jennings, Serge Ibaka and the cap used to sign Bismack Biyombo, which meant that Vogel was almost ready to fail.
Lakers General Manager Rob Pelinka issued the following statement about the addition of Vogel.

The Vogel's Pacers placed in the top-10 defensive rankings each season of his tenure, including two first-place finishes in their conference finals and third place in his final season.
In addition, Vogel led the Pacers to their best season in franchise history with a 56-26 record in the 2013-14 season, allowing them to become the first seed in the overall Eastern standings .
For Vogel – who has not coached in the 2018-2019 season – he's excited about this latest opportunity to coach James and the younger core.
