LOS ANGELES – At the end of the fourth quarter of the USC 45-20 win over Stanford, number 23, the Trojans' student section launched a song: "We love Slovis! We love Slovis!"
A few seconds later, their man, the real quarterback Kedon Slovis, made his third and final touchdown pass of the night to put the finishing touches to the rout of the USC. He was so in agreement with the play that he was oblivious to the admiration of his comrades.
"I did not hear them sing my name," said Slovis, "but it's pretty cool, I guess."

The debut of Slovis as a star of the Trojans, a week after the loss of the second year, JT Daniels, with a torn LCA, could not have been better. He completed 28 of 33 passes for a total of 377 yards without an interception and was particularly good while the Trojans ended the match on a 42-3 record.
The 377 passing yards broke the school record of a real freshman in his career debut.
The new USC offensive coordinator, Graham Harrell, was not surprised at all.

Slovis entered the USC in the spring after a strong career in high school at Desert Mountain High in Scottsdale, Arizona, where he was coached by Kurt Warner but did not play with future Division I players in a team at 3 -7 last year. The message from the USC coach, Clay Helton for Harrell was simple.
"Even though he's young, we've named him # 2 for a reason," Helton said. "Let's go and let go."
The performance of Slovis brings to life a USC season that did not generate much buzz during the off season. The Trojans (2-0, 1-0 Pac-12) will visit BYU next week before returning to Los Angeles to host the conference's favorite, Utah, Sept. 20.
