Denver-based Frontier Airlines announced a policy on Friday requiring all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 by October 1.
The latest move follows concern over the danger posed by the Delta variant, which quickly spread to the United States.
“As we continue to observe the rapid increase in new cases of COVID-19 across the United States caused by the Delta variant, I am concerned for the well-being of our team members, their families and friends.” , said Barry Biffle, Frontier chairman and CEO. “Safety is of the utmost importance at Frontier and we must take all possible measures to ensure the safety of our teams, protect operations and protect our passengers.”

“Now is the time to do what we can to help end COVID-19,” Biffle added.
The airline has made it clear that employees who choose not or cannot be vaccinated will be asked to provide proof of a negative test on a regular basis.

The airline has asked union leaders to help them establish testing protocols for employees, the company said in its statement.
Biffle noted that “the vast majority” of employees have already been vaccinated, but the policy is an incentive to “further increase” this percentage among the workforce.

Frontier is joining United Airlines, which also announced a mandate for employee vaccination on Friday. United’s guidelines are the same as Frontier’s: an October 1 deadline or “regular” testing.
“We know some of you will not agree with this decision to require the vaccine for all United employees,” CEO Scott Kirby and Chairman Brett Hart told employees on Friday. But he added: “The facts are crystal clear: everyone is safer when everyone is vaccinated. “

United, which has 67,000 employees in the United States, imposes since mid-June the vaccination of new hires. Unvaccinated workers are required to wear face masks in company offices.
