Frustrated response from gamers to Sony: “Not a PS5”

It’s the weekend, and weekends are for a) chilling out, b) eating delicious food, c) finally cleaning the toilet (maybe), d) drinking fancy beer, and of course e) start that sweet new generation game that you have been waiting all week to play. Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, no one?

For many gamers, however, playing next-gen console titles has proven to be rather difficult in recent months, as discovery next-gen (or current-gen, I guess at this point) consoles have been nearly impossible. Whether you blame the global pandemic chip shortages, the unscrupulous scalpers, or the robots that won’t blink, it’s been an absolute logistical mess, for both the Xbox Series X | S and the PS5.

Countless gaming fans just can’t seem to land this new hardware. The good news, however, is that there’s always a PC, and if you can get a decent graphics card for less than, say, infinity of dollars, then this might be your best bet going forward. . It’s better than adding recently stocked Sony and Microsoft systems to your online shopping cart so they are gone in seconds.

Even so, the PC route won’t exactly give you access to PlayStation’s excellent and potentially excellent PS5 exclusives. This includes things like the next one Horizon forbidden to the west, demon‘s Souls, Sackboy: a great adventure, or even the new improved version of Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cup. Unless Sony transfers them all to PC anyway, but that’s a story for another article.

Growing frustration with the PS5 out of stock escalated yesterday morning when the official PlayStation US Twitter account posted the following innocent post:

Understandably, the overwhelming response to this informal question was anything but positive, which resulted in the phrase “Not a PS5” trending for quite a while on the social media platform. Many disappointed gamers share their largely unsuccessful hunt for the elusive PS5 consoles, and judging by their stories, it wasn’t for lack of desire or effort.

Honestly, I’m in the same camp empty-handed. I got lucky early on and picked up an Xbox Series X at launch, but basically gave up on trying to find and buy a PS5 months ago. And it’s not because of a weird console war mentality; I love my X Series, but I’m also a huge PlayStation fan and would really love to explore what Sony has to offer in 2021 and beyond.

Unfortunately, I seriously doubt that will happen anytime soon. If I’m being honest I don’t see supply catching up with demand until maybe early 2022, and that’s being bullish. I can’t even blame Sony at this point as it looks like they’re making PS5s as fast as they can.

With the pandemic that turned everything upside down last year, supply chains just can’t keep up, and I guess those of us who want PS5s and can’t make it just have to be patient and wait. . Not the best news, but that’s where we are. Hopefully the holiday season sees an increase in available units.
