Authorities searched the area after Petito went missing.
A body of “as described” Gabby Petito, the 22-year-old woman who went missing on a road trip across the country with her boyfriend, has been found in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, in Wyoming.
The FBI Denver, the National Park Service and law enforcement made the announcement at a press conference Sunday night in Grand Teton National Park. Charles Jones, the FBI’s senior resident agent, said a full forensic identification has yet to be done, but investigators notified Petito’s parents. A cause of death was also undetermined.
The Teton County coroner confirmed to ABC News Sunday afternoon that the agency had sent resources to a body found in the National Forest. No other details were disclosed, including whether the body is that of a man or a woman.
The development came as the search for Brian Laundrie, Petito’s boyfriend, resumed in Florida.
Petito’s parents reported his disappearance on September 11 after not speaking to him for two weeks.
Laundrie had been named by police as a “person of interest” in Petito’s disappearance. Laundrie, 23, who returned home more than two weeks ago without Petito and refused to speak to the police, has not been seen since Tuesday, according to the police.
This is a developing story. Please check for updates.
