Authorities in a convertible Ford Mustang believe Brian Laundrie was supposedly on his way to the Carlton reservation near North Port, Fla. Was parked in the driveway of his family’s house when FBI agents served notice there a search warrant Monday.

Laundrie’s parents told authorities he visited the nearly 25,000-acre reserve on Tuesday, the last time they claim to have seen him, according to the family’s attorney.

Steven Bertolino, the lawyer for the Laundrie family, told ABC News the family recovered the car Thursday morning from the reserve after going out on Wednesday in search of Laundrie.

Laundrie left his family’s home Tuesday morning with a backpack, Bertolino said. He said when family members went to the reservation to pick him up, they spotted a note left on the car by the North Port Police Department saying it should be removed.

Bertolino said the family had left the car overnight “so he [Laundrie] could come back by car. When Laundrie did not get home Thursday morning, the family returned to collect the car, the lawyer said.

The family called police on Friday to file a missing person report, authorities said.
