A 17-year-old now faces three felony charges after deputies from the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office apprehended him last week.

Jose David Yanez of Gainesville was arrested by DSCO on September 29 at around 1 p.m.

The sheriff’s office opened a drug investigation on August 27, a month before Yanez’s arrest. The arrest warrants allege that Yanez committed the acts at the intersection of Ga. 53 and Dawson Forest Road on September 27 between 1:42 p.m. and 4:25 p.m.

During a search of his car on September 29, officers found nine new unopened cartridges of THC, a Schedule 1 substance, in the trunk of the vehicle.

It was also found 6.5 ounces of marijuana, an amount the corresponding warrant noted was “more than what is common for personal consumption.” There were also plastic bags with the medicine, but no apparent device for consumption.

During the search, Yanez reportedly had a gold-colored handgun from 1911 close at hand, inside the center console of his car.

Yanez’s deposit is $ 11,200. However, all charges indicate that the bond type is “NO BOND”.

DCN will update this story as we learn more.
