There are not many options in most playbooks for a situation at 4 and 16, but that did not stop Mississippi State from coming out of that particular scenario late in the fourth quarter against Kansas State on Saturday. After quarterback Garrett Shrader broke the ball and all of his receivers ran into the field, the Bulldog decided to try it. Shrader amassed 12 yards before a new pair of defenders forced him to embark on a daring leap for the first try. It was a commendable attempt, but both Wildcat players made contact with their opponent, the first defender tossing him in the air and the second sending Shrader spiraling like a helicopter shot in a war movie.
The quarterback seemed to be going well after the game, but the ball was unfortunately spotted just before the first goal, which allowed Kansas State to return to the ball.
This turnover ended what was essentially the last Mississippi State training on the road to defeat 31-24. If the Bulldogs want a better chance of winning their next match, Shrader will probably have to try to levitate even higher than he has done this time.
