ATHENS, Georgia. – Kirby Smart’s sixth team in Georgia is off to a good start. The Bulldogs have two wins in as many tries, including one against Clemson in the Duke’s Mayo Classic to start the season. This allowed them to rise to No. 2 nationwide in the Coaching and Associated Press polls.
UGA blew UAB 56-7 last week in their home opener, getting five midair touchdowns from Stetson Bennett in the first half. The Bulldog’s defense has yet to give up an offensive touchdown while racking up 14 tackles for loss, 10 sacks and four interceptions in eight quarters.
But what makes UGA’s play so far in 2021 so impressive is the fact that the Bulldogs just aren’t at full power. They have missed some key players since preseason camp and others have been limited. Some of these players will be returning in the very near future while others might be on the bubble to see more action right away.
Georgia opens the SEC game on Saturday with a home clash against South Carolina (7 p.m. ET on ESPN), a team that upset the Bulldogs on their last visit to Athens. Below, Dawgs247 breaks down the UGA injury situation (as we know it) ahead of this game.
