Amazon Echo is one of the most popular smart speakers on the market. But it is far from the only one that the manufacturer offers. For many, for example, Echo Dot or Echo Plus can be questioned. We clarify you about the differences.

Amazon Echo and Echo Dot in comparison

Most of you may consider Amazon Echo and Echo Dot, smaller and cheaper. The latter is the entry-level model of the manufacturer. For around 60 euros, you get the same features as the wider echo, for which Amazon regularly requires just under 100 euros. So, why should you use the most expensive model? This provides a more powerful speaker (63mm woofer and 16mm tweeter), which is a bit better for playing music. However, the echo can not follow a music system.

Either way, do you want to play only on your smart speaker, the extra for the larger model is not worth it and you can safely reach the Echo Dot (41mm speaker). You can improve the sound quality by connecting the Smart Speaker to a stereo system. Connecting to the Echo Sub will simply give you richer bbad. The subwoofer does not amplify in the middle and treble.

That speaks for the Echo Plus

With a price of just under 150 euros, the Amazon Echo Plus is the most expensive intelligent speaker of this comparison. It offers, among other things, a slightly more powerful speaker (76mm woofer and 20mm tweeter) and an audio input and output. But what sets it apart from the two cheapest models, it's the integrated Zigbee module.

This allows Amazon Echo to be used as a hub or control center for smart home devices that support the Zigbee wireless standard. In this perspective, the price is relativized. Among other things, you can directly control Philips Hue's intelligent lighting with Echo Plus – without the manufacturer's gateway.

However, some of the available features are not available when connecting to smart devices. Echo Plus does not completely replace a traditional hub. In addition, some devices can not be controlled without the manufacturer's bridge despite Zigbee support. The only other smart speaker in Amazon with a built-in hub is currently Echo Show.

Which speaker is the right?

The speaker you should use depends on what you want to do with it. The most complete package is without a doubt the Amazon Echo Plus. However, this only makes sense if you want to use it to control smart devices. Incidentally, this is also possible to a limited extent with the echo and the echo point. For this you need to create routines in the Alexa application. The connection takes place in this case, but on your wireless LAN and not on Zigbee.

If you're looking for a smart speaker in the first place and you just do not want to listen to music on it, then Amazon Echo Dot is enough for you. It offers almost all the features of the other two models and can be connected to a system via the 3mm jack. This is also possible with the second generation echo, which also offers "two speakers with Dolby sound".
