In the
South Sea detained in prison? What looks like a reward first is a punishment for Marcel, 16. The teenager has a lot of shit built in his young life. Drugs and violence. Now, he stabbed a social worker, threatens the prison.
The Wolski social badistant wants to help Marcel. He wants to give a second chance to the teenager on an uninhabited island of the South Pacific. The film "Somewhere in
Tonga " by director Florian Schewe tells the story of a dream based on a real case, seen on ZDF in the night of Tuesday (00.15).
Wolski (Sascha Alexander Gersak) wants to go down to Tonga. For the new start, he gives all his savings. He dreams of helping young criminals there. Marcel (Luis Pintsch) becomes the first case of Wolski
The director Schewe, who also wrote the book for the film, traces the way in which the two men will, in a realistic and calm way, give the film a documentary character. Contributing to this impression is the fact that the director did not choose a well-known actor. Rather, the unused faces are in front of the camera, for Luis Pintsch it's even the leading role. It is also appropriate that ZDF directs the film in the series "Shooting Stars – Young Cinema in the Second".
For Wolski and Marcel, things are not going to happen in the South Pacific as planned. The teenager traveled reluctantly. And the money that Wolski sent in advance to a friend in Tonga to find him a house, the friend pbaded somewhere else. Wolski and Marcel stand between palm trees on the uninhabited island of Kenutu and have nothing else. The atmosphere is on the ground. As far as Marcel does not have any medication .
On the main island, Marcel tries to get something. He does not see the meaning of the social project far away. He comes as he should come: Marcel fights and hurts a man hard. The teenager is now in court in Tonga. Wolski does not drop his protégé, but helps him once again to pull the head of the noose. The social worker refuses the judge a compromise: If Marcel does not leave the uninhabited island of Kenutu for the next ten months, he does not need to be detained. Marcel agrees
Back on the lonely island, a relationship of trust develops slowly between Wolski and Marcel. They build a hut, Marcel learns to swim. But the Togaers are angry because they think Marcel has escaped too easily. The protest moves. And the story takes a dramatic turn.
"Somewhere in Tonga" received an "Honorable Mention" at Hofer Filmtage's "Förderpreis Deutsches Kino" for dramatic ensemble as well as nominations for Best Director and Best Second Actor and Actor. the MIFF awards in Milan.
