Wacken (dpa / lno) – Tens of thousands of music fans arrived on the grounds of the "Wacken Open Air" (WOA) before the unofficial opening on Wednesday. The traditional start of the event will take place in the afternoon (3:45 pm) with the appearance of the musical train of the Wacken Fire Department called "W: O: A Firefighters". Before that, the arrival of the Metal-Trains, a special train from Munich, is scheduled for the morning (9:48) at Itzehoe. Last year, about 500 people took advantage of this travel opportunity. From Itzehoe, the organizers of the Metal Train use shuttles to the festival venues.
Officially, the "Wacken Open Air" begins Thursday. In the evening, the British band "Judas Priest" will be on the stage "Harder". On Tuesday night, police said more than 35,000 visitors had settled on the site. A total of 75,000 paying fans are expected in the small community of Schleswig-Holstein. According to the organizers, nearly 200 groups will be on stage at the 29th edition of the festival.
