On Friday March 5, Ghana received 50,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from India, the second vaccine it has received to date.

Already 600,000 doses of Oxford / AstraZeneca vaccines have been delivered under the COVAX platform.

A mass vaccination exercise began as the country raced against time to fight the pandemic since it erupted on March 12.

During a ceremony organized to welcome this batch of vaccines at Kotoka International Airport.

Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey said this donation “is certainly remarkable support for our fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and reflects the very cordial and fraternal relationship between Ghana and India”.

β€œIn addition, it underscores the mutual commitment of our two governments to work in solidarity and in partnership to address common challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic,” she added.

The minister further assured that the government is leaving no stone unturned in its quest to acquire at least 20 million doses of COVID-19 B vaccines to effectively inoculate the population ”.

Health Minister Kwaku Agyeman-Manu and some health officials were also present at the ceremony.

More than 30,000 people have so far participated in the country’s immunization program.
