A free walk program begins Thursday night at UPEI for women who live with or have survived bad cancer.
The idea is to provide an exercise rather than a real reference, which happens in some provinces "In some areas of the country, for example in Alberta, if you are diagnosed with cancer, you are immediately referred to an exercise specialist [It’s] to give you a program of exercises and "
" In Atlantic Canada, we really do not have that.
No Commitment Required
Saunders and his team received funding from Ultramar, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation and researchers from the other three Atlantic Provinces. UPEI shares $ 60,000 with the University of New Brunswick, Dalhousie in Nova Scotia and Memorial in Newfoundland and Labrador.
"They gave us some money to start some programs," he said. the program runs on the following eight Thursdays, from 7 pm to 8 pm It is not necessary to register – women can go on any or all of the eight evenings.
Women are free to bring their family and friends. The group will use the indoor walking track if it is raining.
"In the fall and winter we will have a more focused and structured exercise program," Saunders said. "The goal is to give the programming of exercises to as many people as possible."
