GIRARD – City officials have been made aware of a stinky situation in a residential area where several skunks have been seen.

Annette Minniti of Rue Stambaugh told council on Monday that residents in the neighborhood see three to four skunks at night and early in the morning.

“We’re having trouble with skunks again. I know when this happened a trapper came down and grabbed a few skunks. The skunks are really bad again ”, she said.

Minniti had pictures of the skunks in her backyard. She said she thought they were in the neighborhood because neighboring properties have trash and debris attracting them. She said these owners and / or tenants do not take care to clean their properties.

“What can I do to get the city to help us?” When I go to work early in the morning, I have to explore my garden through my windows because the skunks are waiting there. I’m afraid of getting sprayed on my way out. That’s how bad they are ”, she said.

Minniti said residents cannot open their windows or run a fan or air conditioner in the window at night when it’s hot outside because skunks are right next to the windows.

“How would you feel if this was your house and you had skunks?” “ Minniti said.

Security and Services Director Jerry Lambert said he would contact a trapper, who comes to town regularly, to visit the neighborhood to trap the skunks.
