A new report has revealed the apparent cause of a tragic accident at a Colorado theme park earlier this month.
A young girl has died after falling from a merry-go-round at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park over Labor Day weekend. After investigating the incident, state officials determined that she had not been properly secured in the arena.
Colorado’s Petroleum and Public Safety Division released a report detailing the incident, which happened on September 5.
According to the report, a 6-year-old girl named Wongel Estifanos fell from the merry-go-round and suffered fatal injuries. The attraction carries six passengers at a time and descends from a shaft 110 feet into the ground.
The victim was not properly secured in his seat. The ride operators apparently did not notice that she was sitting on her seat belts instead of properly buckled up. When the amusement ride system alerted operators to the problem, they allegedly took “several incorrect actions” and rushed the ride after resetting the seat belt. monitors.
State officials inspected the ride several days after the incident and determined that the ride itself was functioning properly.
The report concludes that the route operators did not properly prepare the route before allowing passengers to board. The seat belts had apparently been buckled on a previous trip when the seat was empty and were not unbuckled after that trip returned to the station.
They also violated the Amusement Rides and Devices Regulations by not following proper operating procedures.
