Google Stadia Now Lets You Use Your Phone As A Controller

Nobody can deny it Google Stadia had an amazing rocky start, and Google’s cloud gaming service is still struggling to find its place. But a new feature will give users more options when it comes to how they can play., which could make occasional players give Stadia a chance. May be.

Previously, Stadia required that you have a dedicated controller to play games using the service.. But Google is now rolling out a characteristic which allows anyone to use an Android phone or iPhone to play Stadia on Google TV, Android TV, or Chromecast Ultra. You can also use the phone link to connect a third-party gamepad for Xbox and PlayStation via bluetooth, wifi, or USB through the Phone Link accessory.

I was excited to test it using my phone, but Google said the new controller option rolls out this week and I haven’t received the update yet.

9to5Google has a step-by-step procedure of what the feature looks like if it’s live on your smartphone. On the usual pairing screen of the controller, you will see an option to Ptouchscreen gamepad. Once you have selected this you will see a new screen pop with instructions on how to pair your phone with the TV you are using to play. When successfully paired, thescreen controls will appear as an overlay.

The video in the link above also shows physical controller connection capability via USB. You might consider that for more complex game titles – it’s not easy to play Assassin’s Creed with virtual controls. It’s not entirely clear which brands of controllers work with USB possibility of control. I would personally like to see accessories like the Razer kishi supported, because my Nintendo Switch Pro controller (for the only console I own)does not job with Stadia on TV. Stadia saved it as a compatible controller in the phone app, so let’s keep our fingers crossed.

You can already play Stadia with a myriad of proprietary and third-party controllers on an Android device and through the Chrome browser. But this update brings the ability to play Stadia to the vast plugin ecosystem Google tv and Android TV devices. Not even expensive WalMarket version from the Chromecast can run Stadia. If this will convert curious gamers into subscribers is a whole different thing. At least Stadia is available to everyone on the TV, which is exactly where it belongs.
