Rivera was previously a boss of the organization, which aims to help transition women and children from emergency shelter to more permanent housing.

On the fundraising GoFundMe page, a quote from Rivera stated that she and her son Josey had found, “ a home away from home during the time we spend volunteering there. ”

As of Friday afternoon, the campaign had raised $ 36,200 of its goal of $ 50,000.

Various cast members also created a video in which they each read various parts of the fundraising description.

McHale began the video by saying, ‘As the holidays approach, we can’t help but reflect on the year that has passed. ”

Jenna Ushkowitz, who portrayed Tina Cohen-Chang on the show, added, “ And this year what we think about the most is our amazing friend Naya and the wonderful memories she left with us. ”

It was then explained that the fundraiser was a way to continue Rivera’s annual Christmas function, which came in the form of a party where guests were invited to bring a toy to donate.

Darren Criss said: “ Each holiday season, Naya has not only been successful in finding a way to give back something good to her friends and family, but also something great to her community. ”

Other cast members encouraged viewers to volunteer their time or donate a toy to a local charity on Rivera’s behalf if a financial contribution was not possible.

Rivera’s family also shared a statement regarding the fundraising, which was posted on the GoFundMe page.

The statement read in part, “This fundraiser is an extension of Naya’s love for families, children and the holidays. Honoring her in this way is proof that her love for others is eternally alive.
