According to media reports, the restrooms would have been stolen from Blenheim Palace, in Oxfordshire, England. The museum is also the home where former Prime Minister Winston Churchill was born.
Thames Valley police, who are investigating the robbery, arrested a 66-year-old man in custody, but the gilded toilet has not been found yet. The exhibit was only opened two days before the robbery.
The fully functional golden toilet, named "America", was created by the Italian artist Maurizio Cattelan. It was inserted into the water system and visitors were able to fully engage for three minutes.
The theft caused significant water damage to the museum.
