The Emmys might be the gold standard for television excellence, but they’re not perfect… and sometimes the Golden Globes are there to make things right.
The Globes have certainly been inclined, shall we say, to eccentric choices over the years – Mozart in the jungle, no one? Seriously, has anyone actually seen this show? – but they also met some big winners. In fact, on numerous occasions, voters across the Globe have awarded prizes to highly worthy shows and actors that Emmy voters completely ignored. Classic shows like Twin peaks and The shield and beloved artists like Steve Carell and Hugh Laurie never got the chance to give an Emmy acceptance speech… but they did at the Globes.
With this year’s Golden Globes airing this Sunday (NBC, 8/7c), we look back on all the times the Globes were right – and also helped quell the sting of an Emmys snub.
