Google accidentally unveils Snapdragon LTE “ Limozeen ” Chromebook a little early

At the “Learning With Google” event a few days ago, a ton of new information was given about the behind-the-scenes work regarding Google services for the education sector. Michael has arguably covered the most significant changes that have happened for teachers and students during the transition from G Suite for Education to Google Workspace for Education, but there was also some news regarding the new Chromebooks focused on the. education.

Google is touting more than 40 new Chromebooks on the way, and while they didn’t really highlight any of the specs of these new Chromebooks, they did show a few quickly onscreen. Some of these Chromebooks are already available. So we don’t know exactly what they meant by “new Chromebooks” for education. Either way, there will be a ton of new Chrome OS devices for schools to choose from this year, so we shouldn’t have the inventory issues we’ve seen throughout 2020.

‘Limozeen’ makes an accidental appearance

As we all know here, Chromebooks are developed with code names. We refer them often and every Chrome OS device has a silly codename until it’s officially unveiled. For example, we’ve been monitoring “Nightfury” for a year and only learned its real name – the Samsung Galaxy Chromebook 2 – a few months ago.

Likewise, we tracked “ Limozeen ” as one of the few Chromebooks with Qualcomm Snapdragon on the horizon. We got our hands on one of the others pretty early on in “ Lazor ” and have high expectations for “ Coachz ” until he arrives, but these names are just placeholders for development material until. getting the Chromebook ready to make a more public appearance. It looks like someone wasn’t paying much attention to one of the upcoming Chromebooks featured in the video, and the codename has been dropped right below. Make no mistake: this Chromebook certainly won’t be marketed under the name “Limozeen”. This is simply Acer’s Chromebook 511 and will come to the market as such. But at least we all know what this Chromebook development board is destined to be right now, right?

With so many Chromebooks to come and such bizarre model names plaguing these devices so often, it was bound to happen eventually. For what it’s worth, it’s great to see at least one of these Snapdragon 7c Chromebooks being designed for college students and coming in as Device always connected with LTE under the hood. Qualcomm obviously makes a lot of processors and SoCs with LTE in the equation, so it makes sense to see this option appear for an educational device. We also expect to see LTE versions of upcoming MediaTek devices as well as the rest of 2021 to unfold. It will be a very, very fun year.
