Google announced today its intention to acquire Alooma, a company allowing companies to combine all of their data sources into services such as Google's BigQuery, Redshift, Amazon, Snowflake and Azure. Alooma will therefore accept more new customers wishing to migrate their data to competitors. This is not necessarily surprising and it is good to see that Google will continue to support existing users of Alooma. Users using Alooma in combination with AWS, Azure, and other services other than Google will likely start looking for other solutions in the near future. However, this also means that Google is not likely to develop the service for them beyond its current state.
The co-founder of Alooma stresses, however, that "the journey is not over".
