Google Chrome: the new settings page arrives in the Canary Islands

Recent versions of Google Chrome Canary include a new settings page that adds groups of options to the web browser.

All desktop browsers come with settings pages that allow users to change certain behaviors and features: you can use them to change the default homepage or download folder, change the font size or make advanced feature changes.

Google Chrome displays a page with the basic settings for users up to now and a link on this page that would open the advanced settings. Since there is no direct link to Advanced, users who want to access it must always open the Basic Settings page, and then scroll down to click Advanced to access it.

A recent change that was launched in Chrome Canary could change that in the future. Chrome Canary is the leading version of Google Chrome. new features arrive in this version before being moved to Beta and Stable versions or removed.

Chrome Canary Settings Menu

If you open the settings in Chrome Canary, you may notice that Google has added a new menu on the side so you can jump directly to certain sections of the settings.

Note that the width of the browser window must be set to a certain size for the menu to appear. If the width is insufficient, you get the classic layout without menu.

The menu immediately lists all the basic sections of the page settings and the advanced sections below. You must develop Advanced to view them. A click on one of the links immediately displays the group so that you no longer have to activate the advanced link to change the advanced settings.

The menu leads to the extensions management page and about Chrome.

Chrome does not remember the state of the advanced menu for now. You must expand it whenever you want to use it to quickly access a group of advanced settings.

However, Advanced lists all available groups so you can access them quickly and without scrolling.

Microsoft recently launched a similar settings page in the next Microsoft Edge based on Chromium; it is unclear if Google was inspired by the layout of Microsoft.

The Google Chrome Settings page is about to become more useful. Google has not touched the internal links to the settings yet. Browser users who regularly manage advanced settings may find it more useful than the current Stable design, as this may speed things up.

Although you can use search to quickly find a parameter, you must know the name of the parameter or group to do it.
