Google kills the My Case program with the launch of Pixel 3a

At the I / O 2019, Google announced the Nest Hub Max for this summer and launched the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL models. However, the big unveiling of hardware coincided with Google's death of My Case for Pixel 3 in Google.

The custom case program dates back to the Nexus 6, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P before switching to the original Pixel and Pixel XL in 2016. These first editions featured a programmable NFC button that worked with an auxiliary application to deliver live wallpaper.

For the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, the NFC was dropped for automatic pairing by connecting to the Live Case app with the Google Account used for purchase on the Google Store. There was also a code inside the accessory that you could enter to get exclusive wallpapers.

Google did not propose Live Cases for the Pixel 3 and went to My Cases last October. Users can upload a photo to the online web tool and adjust the fit. Google also offered the Places variant, which printed a map, as well as works of art and popular prints.

My Case was available in the days leading up to I / O 2019, but the launch of Pixel 3a resulted in the removal of the entire Google Store custom program. An official Pixel Phone help page confirmed that "My cases and my real cases are no longer sold by Google".

The only models manufactured by Google and available to date are the most popular fabric variants for models 3 and 3a. It can be argued that the covers of the materials have been widely successful, but that Google kills My Case removes an official way to obtain a unique accessory for your Pixel 3.
