Google Maps adds dependency recovery resources

This year, Google Maps has had some really useful updates. It can monitor your most used public transport routes, tell you which is the most popular dish in a restaurant and even plan for bus or train congestion on a given day.

Now, the next Google Maps update could save millions of lives by making addiction treatment resources more accessible. according to CNET, the update will show people where they can attend more than 83,000 recovery meetings in more than 33,000 locations, including Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous.

Google Maps will also help people with addiction to find naloxone, an over – the – counter medication that cancels the effects of an overdose in case of an emergency. Anyone can type "Naloxone near me" or "Narcan near me" in the search bar to find the drug.

These updates come after Google's search results revealed that users were looking for recovery assistance more than ever. This makes sense, given the current epidemic of opioids that is sweeping the United States.

Previously, Google Maps was starting to list places where people could get rid of unused drugs and already had a support page for recovering dependencies called Recover Together. But these latest feature updates increase Google's social impact.

Google built these tools in the honor of the month of economic recovery in September. This year marks the 30th anniversary of the month of recovery. The Google Maps update is exactly what the country needs to raise awareness and provide resources for people in need.
