Ahead of the larger Material You overhaul, Google is rolling out a small tweak to a particularly important and frequently used component in apps. The time picker user interface in Google’s Android apps is updated with a new, more user-friendly design.
Most apps display the analog component first, with Google now spacing fields better for hours and minutes. It is also much more obvious that AM and PM can be operated in Android’s new time picker design.
Meanwhile, this upper part of the screen is now the entire manual entry user interface. Compared to before, everything is bigger and the time selector makes better use of the available space. Users also don’t have to deal with a small drop-down target / AM / PM key. (As a side note, you can also see the updated Material You keypad in Gboard below.) The cover gallery above shows the landscape variant of this UI.
Overall, this is a big improvement and has rolled out to more Google apps in the past few weeks. Google Search uses this updated component to set Assistant Reminders, while version 5.21.301.10 introduces it to Google Keep on Android.
Google Calendar, Tasks, and Clock have yet to be updated, although the latter app will likely wait for its larger hardware overhaul. Third-party applications can also be updated with this component, which was recently introduced, at any time.
